eHealth, Inc. (NASDAQ: EHTH) announced today that its eHealth Technology platform will be utilized by The IHC Group (NYSE:IHC) to power online sales of Medicare Supplement products through its own e-commerce site for agents in 16 states.

Many Americans have a poor understanding of basic health insurance terms and when certain health care reform provisions take effect, according to a national survey conducted in September and October of 2011 by global insights firm Kelton Research and sponsored by eHealthInsurance

Today eHealthInsurance, the leading online source of health insurance for individuals, families and small businesses, announced the release of its new book, Individual Health Insurance For Dummies, Health Care Reform Special Edition, produced in cooperation with For Dummies®, a branded imprint of Wiley.

A new survey conducted by Kelton Research and sponsored by eHealthInsurance shows that many Americans are unfamiliar with basic health insurance terminology and the provisions of the 2010 health care reform law.

When asked if they would change doctors to save up to $100 each month; 79% of seniors said no, compared to 73% of all respondents. When asked if they would be willing to change plans in order to potentially save over $100 per month, 63% of seniors still said they would not change plans, while only 48% of the total population said they would pass up the potential savings.

The Medicare AEP enrollment period opened on October 15, 2011 and runs through December 7, 2011. In most cases, Medicare beneficiaries who have a Medicare Supplement plan and wish to make changes to their Medicare Part D prescription drug coverage for 2012 will only have an opportunity to make these changes during the AEP. As baby boomers begin turning 65 and become eligible for Medicare, an increasing number will try to make sense of the numerous Medicare coverage options available to them, including the different types of Medicare Supplement plans and the specific Medicare enrollment periods for Medicare Supplement plans. Many will struggle to find the Medicare Supplement plan best suited to their personal needs.

According to the ‘Cost families paid an average annual premium of $4,968 ($414 per month). The report also found that the average deductible for individually-purchased health insurance plans in 2011 was $2,935 for individuals and $3,879 for families.

According to the report, prepared by eHealth, Inc., the average premium paid for individual health insurance coverage in the United States in 2011 was $2,196 per year ($183 per month); families paid an average annual premium of $4,968 ($414 per month).
